This study investigates the effect of exposure to sociotelism on perceived stress and examines the mediating roles of interpersonal mindfulness and psychological resilience in this relationship. Sociotelism refers to a contemporary form of social exclusion in which individuals focus on their smartphones instead of attending to their interaction partners during face-to-face communication. Increasingly prevalent in the digital age, this behavior has been associated with disruptions in social interaction as well as negative psychological outcomes. Previous research suggests that sociotelism is linked to higher levels of stress, anxiety, depression, and lower life satisfaction. The study was conducted with 407 adults aged 24 to 55 using an online survey method within a correlational research design. Participants completed the General Phubbing Exposure Scale, the Perceived Stress Scale, the Interpersonal Mindfulness Scale, and the Psychological Resilience Scale. Data were analyzed using Confirmatory Factor Analysis and Structural Equation Modeling.Findings indicated that exposure to sociotelism significantly increased perceived stress and negatively predicted interpersonal mindfulness and psychological resilience. Moreover, both variables were found to partially mediate the relationship between sociotelism and perceived stress. Overall, the results highlight the protective roles of interpersonal mindfulness and psychological resilience against adverse social experiences in the digital era.
